On the evening of May 2nd, the banks of the Liuyang River lit up with a breathtaking spectacle as the immersive show “Fireworks Planet: A Fantastical Night” took center stage at Sky Theater. This event, jointly presented with CCTV News, introduced a special themed display titled “Shining in China Red”, and was broadcast live online, once again putting Liuyang fireworks in the global spotlight.
The show unfolded across five imaginative planetary chapters — Venus: Light of Faith, Jupiter: Healing Forest, Mercury: Sea of Love, Mars: Summit of Courage, and Saturn: Ideal City. From the opening “Rainbow Cloud” fireworks to scenes like “Dreamboat Under the Stars” and “Neon Garden,” the night evolved into a cosmic journey through light and emotion, unique to the romantic riverside of Liuyang.
Where Technology Meets Tradition
Combining mechanical stage designs with advanced digital fireworks, the show created a “Fireworks Planet” that came to life in the night sky. A fleet of 1,000 drones simulated the skyline of an “Ideal City,” transforming the skies over Liuyang into a vast galactic theater — blending art, code, and craftsmanship in perfect harmony.
A dramatic moment came when a “flying saucer” descended over the stage on wires, releasing a cascade of silver sparks. Masked performers moved in sync with rhythmic heartbeats, while drone formations shaped a “Stellar Gate,” erupting alongside a waterfall of fireworks — eliciting waves of cheers and glowing lights from the audience.

Director Huang Cheng described the performance as a breakthrough in stage design:
“We’ve stripped away conventional sets. The stage itself is the Fireworks Planet — the gears are its bones, programmed fireworks are its bloodstream, and every spark is an actor. Every beam of light tells a story.”
