China Fireworks Exports Surge Amid Shifting Global Demand
It may not come as a surprise to seasoned exporters, but the numbers still speak volumes—China fireworks industry is back in full swing. According to data from Changsha Customs, Hunan Province exported fireworks worth RMB 4.84 billion in 2024, a solid 10% rise compared to the previous year. More impressively, this figure accounts for nearly 60% of China’s total fireworks exports, once again putting Hunan at the forefront of the industry.
What’s more telling is the momentum building in early 2025. In just the first quarter, Hunan shipped out over RMB 1 billion worth of fireworks—an increase of 42% year-on-year. For a traditional sector often sensitive to seasonality and regulation, that level of growth is far from ordinary.
New Markets, New Priorities
One notable trend has been the shift in export geography. While the United States continues to be the largest market (with RMB 550 million worth shipped in Q1 alone), more shipments are now heading toward Southeast Asia and South America. Vietnam and Cambodia have seen particularly sharp rises—exports there grew by more than 20-fold in 2024.
Thanks to improved shipping lanes and customs procedures, deliveries to countries like Peru, Brazil, and Guatemala are also moving faster. That, combined with growing demand during off-season festivals in those regions, seems to be nudging more factories to adjust their production calendars.
European Buyers Buying Early
The European Union is showing renewed interest, especially with large orders from Poland, Germany, and the UK. In fact, shipments to the UK alone jumped by nearly 385% in Q1. Some industry insiders suggest this may have something to do with distributors wanting to avoid delays during peak months by placing orders much earlier in the year.
From Craft to Tech: Drones Make an Entrance
Another interesting shift is happening in the types of products being ordered. While traditional fireworks are still the mainstay, there’s growing interest in drone-compatible firework systems. These are usually custom-developed for large-scale events and combine synchronized aerial displays with software-controlled ignition patterns. It’s still a niche, but growing fast.
