China Fireworks Export: Liuyang Factory Secures U.S. Shipment Post-Tariff Cut

Following the easing of U.S.-China tariff policies on May 12, Chinese fireworks manufacturer PyroNexa quickly sprang into action. The first batch of fireworks is scheduled to depart for the Port of Long Beach, USA, on May 29.

May is typically the peak season for fireworks factories in China, particularly for exports. The United States remains one of the largest importers of Chinese fireworks, accounting for nearly one-third of China’s fireworks exports. In return, the U.S. fireworks market heavily relies on China, with about 85% of its fireworks imports originating from Chinese suppliers—more than half of which come from the Liuyang region, known as the global fireworks capital.

Each year, the export window to the U.S. typically runs from just after the Spring Festival until early May, ensuring that most shipments arrive in time for Independence Day celebrations on July 4th.

On May 17, at PyroNexa’s warehouse in Liuyang, various fireworks were stacked neatly, ready for loading. Workers were actively preparing the first shipment to the United States. “We had already received the customer’s order back in December,” a company representative explained. “Production was completed as planned by April 15. But on April 8, the sudden U.S. tariff hike caused our customer’s costs to surge, and they had to halt the shipment.”

“Our delivery schedule to the U.S. is usually finalized by April, and all orders were arranged accordingly. The abrupt increase in tariffs forced everything to pause. This disruption caused significant losses to our production schedule and warehouse operations. To maintain normal operations, we even rented additional storage space in Liuyang at a high cost.”

A turning point came on May 12, when the U.S. and China reached a new consensus on tariffs. “That same night, the customer sent an urgent email to revive the order,” said the representative. “We replied immediately: ‘Let’s get back to work!’ It was a seamless understanding.”

To help U.S. clients minimize their losses, PyroNexa entered a ‘wartime mode’—racing to coordinate with ports, secure shipping slots, expedite customs clearance, and successfully lock in the first available shipment departing on May 29.

“We were fortunate to book one of the earliest sailings. The vessel leaving on May 29 is expected to arrive at the Port of Long Beach by June 14, just in time for the U.S. Independence Day. Our clients are thrilled.”
